Corbin BleuCorbin Bleu can be seen dancing and dribbling in Disney’s hit High School Musical. He’s also on the show Flight 29 Down, and was even on an episode of Hannah Montana. With a new movie coming up and some new music, Corbin has what it takes to be a double threat in the entertainment business.

THE STAR SCOOP:
How has High School Musical impacted your career?

CORBIN BLEU:
A lot. I’ve been working for a long, long time, and I think that High School Musical was the project that gave me the most publicity. A lot of work was put into [High School Musical]. We all had our strong points, and our weak points. We had to learn all the dances, all the songs, everything. We all helped each other. Disney is really great. Once you do one Disney thing, you’re in their pack. You get to do a lot. I’m doing another movie, called Jump.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Are there plans for a second High School Musical?

CORBIN BLEU:
There is going to be a High School Musical2. They’re actually in the middle of writing the script right now. All we know is that there is definitely going to be [one]. We have no idea anything else about it. We don’t know where it’s going to be filmed, when, what it’s about; we don’t even know who’s going to be in it.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Are you still doing Flight 29 Down as well?

CORBIN BLEU:
Yeah, I do. I got back from filming from Hawaii a few months ago, and I’m contracted for one more season, I’m not sure if we’re going on it or not. I would definitely love to go, it would be really great. I don’t know, we’ll see.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Can you tell us about your character, Nathan?

CORBIN BLEU:
Yeah. Nathan is a boy scout, and he’s a very adamant person. He loves to be the leader. One thing about Nathan is that he’s been very family oriented his whole life. And now that he’s been stuck on this island, he doesn’t have anybody there telling him how good he is as much as he has to prove to himself that he has the chops to be able to lead. When he gets on this island, he wants to become leader. He ends up finding out that a lot of things he does, he constantly messes up, that’s not something he’s used to. He gets back up on his feet. he’s very passionate. I love to lead, and when I fall I get right back up. Nathan is a little bit more dorky, [than I am]. I like to do a lot of different things. I want that role that really challenges myself.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Which do you enjoy more, the movie setting or a TV show?

CORBIN BLEU:
Hmm. I think I like doing movies better. With me, everything needs to be fresh. When you do a TV show, it’s great, every time you get to dive into your character more and more, but at the same time I kind of feel like, I’ve already done this. They both have their highs and lows.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Speaking of highs and lows, what struggles have you encountered in this business?

CORBIN BLEU:
I’ve been doing it for a long time. One thing is that the job is not steady. You never know when you’re going to work. You have to go a whole year or two and nothing comes in. A lot of times, they’re not looking for your type, especially because I’m mixed, especially. A lot of times they either want to go full on Caucasian or they want to go full on black. They either want somebody who is really black and from the street, and urban, and a little bit ghetto, or they want a Caucasian. That’s probably one of the hardest struggles for me. You never know when work is going to come in.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What would your fans be most surprised to find out you’ve acted in?

CORBIN BLEU:
A few things. I started off doing modeling when I was younger; I started off as a Ford model, so that’s definitely one thing. I actually did ER when I was younger. I got to get a shot in my foot by George Clooney. That’s a big one.

THE STAR SCOOP:
So at what point did you decide this is what you wanted to do?

CORBIN BLEU:
My whole life. My dad’s also an actor, so it’s something that I always watched. I started doing it, and I fell in love with it. Ever since I was two, I loved being in front of the camera and at that point it was just having fun. I just love doing it. As I got older, I got more into the actual craft of acting itself, and fell more and more in love with it. Here I am now. For me, it’s not all about the fame and fortune; it’s really putting out good work.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What does it take to keep your head clear in this world?

CORBIN BLEU:
I have really great parents who have constantly kept me grounded my whole life. Am I just going to be this robot or am I going to be a person, that’s my job. You have to remember that this is a job; it’s not this whole other entity that they try to make it all about being a celebrity. Remember there are people struggling in this world, and you’re just lucky enough to be able to get what you have. Stay humble, and remember that it’s your job. Accept it graciously, and don’t make a big deal of it.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What are your short term goals?

CORBIN BLEU:
I’m actually working on music. I’m getting a record deal and cutting an album. I’m really looking forward to that. It’s an R/B, soul, mixed with pop.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What are your long term goals?

CORBIN BLEU:
I want to achieve success in a way that is not necessarily that I have to do films as much as that I want to achieve success that people know my work and they know that my work is appreciated. [For example], to me, winning an Oscar is a big deal, because it’s that your work is known, and put a lot into it. Not the red carpet, but the actual winning. That’s what it’s all about, the work.
