Masiela Lusha Exclusive Interview

Masiela Lusha

Masiela Lusha can be seen on George Lopez as Carmen. However, she proves her skills go beyond the tube and onto the page with her newly published book of poetry, “Drinking The Moon.” A girl who knows how to follow her heart, Masiela can’t wait to tackle her next goals.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Currently, you’re appearing on George Lopez. How is it going?

MASIELA LUSHA:
It’s been a great experience with the show. I spent my most formative years on the show. I think I spent a quarter of my life on that show. For me, I think I learned the most about the industry every single day. I am so blessed that I was given this opportunity. I’m so proud to say I’m an actress.

THE STAR SCOOP:
So how did you go about becoming an actress; how did you start off your career?

MASIELA LUSHA:
I lived in Michigan and there was an agent from California coming to lead a seminar, and he had invited three out of the 600 to come back with him to California to do acting. So I was fortunate enough to already have an agent when I started doing acting L.A. I think getting an agent is one of the hardest things. Eventually, you have to keep going with where your heart takes you, and I had to find another agent and a manager, and that’s how I booked the show. It was three years later, I was new, I had no idea what it was to be professional, but I learned really quickly.

THE STAR SCOOP:
We’ll come back to where you’re at now later. Where are you from originally?

MASIELA LUSHA:
I was born in Albania, and then I moved to Hungary, Budapest, and then to Vienna, Austria, and I came to Michigan when I was seven years old. English is my fourth language. It was a journey.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What do you like to do, besides acting?

MASIELA LUSHA:
I love to write. I think one thing people would be surprised to find out about me is, I’m a social person, because it’s the nature of the business to be social, but, with myself, I don’t feel comfortable with the media attention on me. Really, I just like to stay by myself, watch movies, read a nice book, hang out with my friends.

THE STAR SCOOP:
This brings us back to your current endeavors, with writing. Tell us about that.

MASIELA LUSHA:
At this time, my book is released. I was in New York, promoting it. I’m just promoting my book of poetry right now, “Drinking The Moon.” I started writing it, since I was thirteen. Something about poetry, which I think especially girls can appreciate, is it takes the most simple moments, like one person holding another person’s hands, or one little smile that came out of nowhere; you can frame that into one poem. For some people who are just so busy, and can’t really find time to admire those little snippets of real life, they can read it in a poem. They find it in there for themselves. They don’t have to experience it. That’s what I think the beauty of poetry is. I pride myself writing these poems to really be honest with the reader. It’s like publishing your diary. It’s a little nerve-wracking, but I hope the public, and especially girls, are going to see that it’s a beacon of inspiration for them, to be able to write their own poetry one day. I published my first book when I was twelve years old, so I think that’s where it really started for me. We come from a very poetic family. My aunt in Vienna, she is well know as a poet, my mom is a poet too. She published her book as well. I kind of followed in the footsteps of these inspirational women. I think the main inspiration for me was my teacher from Michigan, because she asked me to read my poems in front of the class. That was the first time I ever felt like I was accepted, and that it was okay to write, and it was okay to be good at writing poetry. It just snowballed from there. My third book is going to come out next year. I find time to write the way kids find time to ride their bikes.

THE STAR SCOOP:
Speaking of next year, what’s in your future?

MASIELA LUSHA:
Every day is an adventure, especially when you’re pursuing acting, because you never know what the next day is going to bring. I would love to start working on movies. That is my passion. I love the attention you have to give to movies, it takes you about three months for one character from beginning to end, to play the whole story, and you really sink into the character. I would love to get into that.

THE STAR SCOOP:
What advice can you give to teens about discovering their passions?

MASIELA LUSHA:
Find a subject that you absolutely adore, something that you don’t even realize how many hours you spend on it. If you find something you truly enjoy to that degree, everything’s just going to come to you. When you love something, you do a good job at it.
