Cerina Vincent Exclusive Interview

Cerina VincentCerina Vincent is an accomplished actress and a writer. We interviewed Cerina with her co-author Jodi Lipper about their anti-diet book, “How to Eat Like a Hot Chick,” but this time around we talked to Cerina solo to learn about her latest movie, the romantic comedy, Everybody Wants to be Italian. THE STAR SCOOP: How has your life changed since we talked with you last?

CERINA VINCENT: Well, life has managed to get busier and busier, but things are definitely good. I guess what has changed since the last time we spoke is that my first romantic comedy, Everybody Wants to Be Italian is coming out September 5th and it’s been a lot of fun doing press for it. The last time we spoke, we talked about the book with Jodi, which is still a fantastic and huge part of my life, but right now we are all very excited for this film. I’ve been acting for 11 years now, and probably most known for my roles in Cabin Fever and Not Another Teen Movie, and various TV shows, but this film is really special to me; it’s charming and something completely different than what most of my fans are used to seeing me in. And everyone behind the film has great passion for it, I’m really grateful to be in it.

THE STAR SCOOP: Tell us about the movie Everybody Wants to be Italian.

CERINA VINCENT: It started off as an independent film written and directed by Jason Todd Ipson, produced by Jamie Burke and Asgaard Entertainment, and it was one of those films that I was thrilled to be a part of since day one—everyone involved had such passion. Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate are releasing the film theatrically and we are thrilled that everyone will have the chance to see this film on the big screen—cause it’s getting a lot of attention. The movie is the perfect, non-traditional romantic comedy meshed with a really funny buddy comedy. The story is about love and soul mates and touches on all sorts of Freudian ideals, and the backdrop of this hysterical and touching little love triangle is a really cute story about Italians. This film has something that everyone can relate to…people of every age group are loving it. It’s one of those films that’s great for the girls because it talks about love, soul mates, guy things that annoy the crap out of us, and ticking biological clocks, all those things that women can relate to. It’s also great for the boys because there’s a lot of ridiculously funny guy-humor.

THE STAR SCOOP: Who is your character?

CERINA VINCENT: The movie is about this guy, Jake, played by the very talented Jay Jablonski, who is sort stuck in the past. He’s obsessed with his ex-girlfriend and can’t get over it and it’s stopping his life from moving forward. So his friends, played by John Enos and John Capelos, try to get him out into the world again, looking for other fish in the sea. And then Jake meets my character. Marisa Costa, a veterinarian who is looking for “the one”, tired of dating dishonest guys, and dying to be excited by someone. The movie is set in Boston’s North End, which is pretty much as Italian as you can get next to Italy. And Jake and Marisa both pretend to be Italian to win each other’s hearts. It was a really sweet, different role for me to play coming from [being] mostly known in the horror genre. I do a lot of comedy as well, but I had been dying to do a romantic comedy, and dying to do a film that my big Italian Catholic family would approve of. So, this was one of those roles that was just a dream for me. It’s so well written. The whole film is so well written and well acted. Penny Marshall makes a cameo and all of the actors are just fabulous and funny and genuine.

THE STAR SCOOP: Why will people like the movie?

CERINA VINCENT: It’s just really, genuinely funny and it really makes you think about love and all of your own relationships in life. You’re constantly laughing-and learning a bit too. Jason’s writing is smart and witty and adorable and ridiculous, in a good way, all wrapped up in one. The film is an all around feel good movie. It’s also about Italians. You don’t have to be Italian to appreciate this film. But if you are, you get a little bit more excited about it. When people leave the film, they’re like, “That was cute, that was so much fun, I was rooting for you, I could totally relate to him,”… Those are the sort of comments we get back from it. It’s not your typical romantic comedy. Some of these movies the studios pump out, they stick with the exact same formula for how a romantic comedy should go. This is a little bit different and it breaks the rules in a way that people seem to be liking. Again, I feel greatful to be a part of it.

THE STAR SCOOP: What else should people know about this film?

CERINA VINCENT: It opens September 5th in New York City (AMC 25 and Regal Union Square), Rochester, Albany, Syracuse, Buffalo, Philadelphia, New jersey, and Salt Lake City. So we want everyone to tell everyone is those cities to go see the film, and then later in September it will roll out to the rest of the country.

THE STAR SCOOP: Do you have any other projects you want to tell us about?

CERINA VINCENT: A few months ago I did a really fun episode of Two and a Half Men where I play a really funny escort that has the flu, and so I had some great scenes with Charlie Sheen. The books definitely are a project I want to remind people of — and Jodi and I are loving it! We want Hot Chicks of all ages to look out for our second book that comes out in January, “How to Love Like a Hot Chick.” And Jodi and I are still busy with “How to Eat Like a Hot Chick”, and working on outlining our next few books. We want to add a wedding book and a cook book to the mix—so we are busy writing away. Plus, we write a weekly column for The Huffington Post. But as far as acting goes, I’m starting a film in the fall called Complacency, and it’s a really cool drama about people who become complacent in their marriages and their lives… people who don’t strive to really appreciate their marriages and love each other and keep things exciting. It’s a dark comedy/drama take on people becoming complacent. It’s all in the title. The director of that film is Steven Monroe, who I’ve worked with a couple times before, and he is fantastic. Anyway, it’s a lot to manage – the writing stuff and the acting stuff, trying to keep it all working and going, but I feel lucky.

THE STAR SCOOP: What message would you like to leave your fans with?

CERINA VINCENT: Right now, I really just want people to go out and see Everybody Wants to be Italian. It will make you laugh, it’s inspiring, it makes you want to love, it makes you want to eat Italian food. I think it’s really important to kick back and let yourself be entertained and this is one of those films. I really hope that some of my horror fans will break away from the horror movies for a weekend and go out and see me in a romantic comedy. And all the girls that are excited about my next book with Jodi, go see the movie as well. It’s just a feel good, really funny movie. It’s a movie you can go to with your parents or your lover or your best friend. It’s really a lot of fun.
