THE STAR SCOOP: Tell us about your character Lexie in “Safe Haven.”

MIMI KIRKLAND: Lexie is a little girl who lost her mother to cancer when she was very young. Because she doesn’t really remember her, she’s been able to stay happy, positive, funny and sassy – unlike her older brother Josh [Noah Lomax]. She loves to play on the beach with her brother and her dad, Alex [Josh Duhamel].

THE STAR SCOOP: What do you like best about playing Lexie?

MIMI KIRKLAND: I could see myself doing and saying things Lexie said and did, so the role was easier to play. She and I are a lot alike!

THE STAR SCOOP: How would you say you are different from her?

MIMI KIRKLAND: Well, Lexie only has one brother and I have two sisters! Also, she had to grow up without her mother around – which is really sad!

THE STAR SCOOP: How did you like working with Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough?

MIMI KIRKLAND: They were awesome to work with on and off the set, we had so much fun!

THE STAR SCOOP: How did you like working on your first movie set?

MIMI KIRKLAND: I liked seeing how movies are made, and working with Josh Duhamel, Julianne Hough and Noah Lomax was so cool. They made my first experience on and off the set a really good one! I’m from Raleigh, North Carolina, so I liked working in Southport since it’s close to home. I hope to visit soon!!!

THE STAR SCOOP: What was your favorite part about working on this movie?

MIMI KIRKLAND: My favorite part was hanging out with the Safe Haven cast and crew, and getting to know the people from Southport. Everyone was really nice so it made my first movie experience very exciting. THE STAR SCOOP: What’s coming up next for you?

MIMI KIRKLAND: Right now I’m in L.A. auditioning for roles in film and television. I have been really busy! I can’t wait to start working on my next project.
